Hi there. I am a Canadian citizen and am trying to apply for my British
passport as my dad was born in the UK. I am wondering if it is possible to hold
a Canadian passport and a British passport and have both be valid.
Yes you can hold both citizenships and may carry both British and Canadian
passports. Canada and the UK accept dual nationality.
How long will it take to get a first time British passport for my son?
The process takes around 4 to 6 weeks. You must first fill out a passport
application from the
British Embassy website and submit this to the
UK
passport office in Washington DC, USA. You must include all relevant
documentation to support your application.
I am a British citizen permanently resident in Canada. My passport is due to
expire next year. When should I renew it?
You can renew your British passport up to 9 months before it actually expires.
The time remaining will be credited to your new passport. You can apply for a
new British passport through the
Regional Passport Processing Centre in Washington, DC.
How much will it cost me to renew my British passport from Canada?
The cost for a standard adult 32 page passport is $205 plus $12 postage. The fee
must be paid in US dollars to the British Embassy Government Account.
Hello, I am hoping to take my Canadian Citizenship test this July. At the moment I have a British passport and would like to keep this. How do I go about getting a Canadian passport? Adult passports are valid for 5 years. For passport purposes, adults are classed
as people over 16. From 2012 Canadians will have the option of applying for a 10
year passport. Child passports for holders aged 3 to 15 years of age are valid
for 5 years. Infant passports for children aged 3 and under are valid for 3
years.

I need to renew my Canadian passport. It expired several years ago as I currently live in the UK and has travelled on my British passport recently. I was born in Canada and wish to renew my Canadian passport from the UK. Can you help advise me how I need to proceed?
Full consular and passport services are provided at the Canadian High Commission in London.
The application process is the same whether you are applying for a first passport or renewing your existing or expired passport. Canadians living in the UK and abroad are not eligible for the simplified passport renewal program.

Can I get over to the USA and back to Canada on my British passport? We only
became Canadian citizens last week so we are yet to get passports. Can we use
our citizenship cards to come back to Canada Thank-you?
You will be able to travel on your British Passport. In order to travel into the
US you are required to obtain an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel
Authorization). In order to apply for an ESTA authorization, travelers should
visit https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/
for additional information. For your return to Canada you will be required to
show you’re Canadian Citizenship Cards.
British citizens are eligible to apply for a UK passport. You do not have to be
resident in the United Kingdom to apply for a new or to renew your UK passport.
UK passports are issued by the
British Regional Passport Processing Centre in Washington, DC.
